Lawrence man, 20, charged with DWI, drug possession, reckless driving

About 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a Lawrence police officer attempted to pull over a car with significant damage near Engel Road and Crescent Drive. The suspect sped off and, after hitting a sign, ran away from the car. The officer chased him through backyards and the parking lot of Jayhawk Bookstore, 1420 Crescent Road. The chase ended when the suspect tripped near Potter Lake.

The 20-year-old Lawrence man was taken to the Douglas County Jail and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a hallucinogen and reckless driving. Sgt. Trent McKinley, of the Lawrence Police Department, said the suspect was driving his girlfriend’s car without her permission, so he was also charged with felony theft. He was released on bond Sunday afternoon.
