A 26-year-old Lawrence has been charged in Douglas County District Court with rape and aggravated sexual battery.

He was arrested Wednesday night after a 21-year-old Lawrence woman had earlier reported a sexual assault, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Matt Sarna.

Sarna said the woman reported the assault on Monday, alleging it occurred Dec. 31 in a residence in south-central Lawrence. He said the victim did not receive any life-threatening physical injuries. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

The defendant is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12.
