Lawrence High School senior Leah Towle and Free State High School senior Sisira Srisutiva have been selected as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholar Program.
Established in 1964, the program recognizes some of the most distinguished graduating high school students. Kansas has 45 candidates this year. Nicholas Henriquez, a Lawrence resident who attends Topeka High School, was also selected as a candidate.
In April, the program will announce 500 semifinalists. From those students, Presidential Scholars will be selected in May.
Last year, Free State senior Victoria Gilman was among 141 students who were named a Presidential Scholar.
