Two Ottawa men indicted on federal drug charges Wednesday

Two Ottawa men were indicted Wednesday in federal court on various drug and firearm charges, according to court documents.

Nicholas Griffin, 33, and James New, 46, were charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

New — a convicted felon — also is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The crimes, investigated by the Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit, occurred in Franklin County between 2010 and March 2012, according to a news release issued by the office of U.S. District Attorney of Kansas Barry Grissom.

A 27-year-old Williamsburg woman, Jessica Blackstone, also faces drug charges in the case.

The charges carry penalties up to 10 years in prison.
