27-year-old man charged with fleeing and eluding police

A 27-year-old Auburn, Kan., man was charged Tuesday with numerous crimes after police say he fled from law enforcement Monday afternoon.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley, a truck stolen from Shawnee County and driven by Steven Matthew Rule eluded a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy at about 4 p.m.

The vehicle was located driving south on North 2nd Street. After a pursuit, Rule abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, before being arrested in the 1100 block of Rhode Island at about 4:30.

On Tuesday, Rule was charged with numerous traffic offenses, including fleeing and eluding police, as well as theft and drug possession.

Rule is being held on a $20,000 bond. His next court hearing is Dec. 11.
