— A 47-year-old Tonganoxie man died in a motorcycle accident late Sunday near Tonganoxie.

The accident occurred about 11:10 p.m. a mile south of Tonganoxie on U.S. Highway 24-40.

The motorcyclist, Elias Velasquez, was heading toward Tonganoxie when he lost control of a 1991 Harley Davidson Sportser and went off the road to the right, according to Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office reports. Velasquez was thrown from the bike and hit a warning sign and a guard rail. The bike continued into the ditch, where it came to rest.

Emergency personnel pronounced Velasquez dead at the scene, reports said.

RIP Eli. You will always be loved and never be forgotten. I'm so thankful I was blessed to have had you in my life. You were the most loving and giving person I've ever met. A true Angel that walked the Earth.

RIP, however I wonder why certain paternal liberals aren't screaming about outlawing motorcycles

24/40 is Death. I saw today that a stoplight will be put in at 158th and 24/40. That intersection killed another person last week.

"Velasquez was thrown from the bike and hit a warning sign and a guard rail. "

Not sure a helmet would have saved this man. 65 mph through there.

Condolences to his family and friends.
