A juvenile driver was critically injured after a one-vehicle accident near the 1100 block of North 1700 Road west of Lawrence.

Emergency personnel responded to the accident at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the driver was transported by air ambulance. Douglas County Undersheriff Steve Hornberger said the driver was traveling northbound in the 1100 block of North 1700 road and for an unknown reason drove over the shoulder, struck a concrete pillar and then some trees.

Further information on the driver is being withheld pending notification of the person’s parents, Hornberger said.

Can't get through Martin Park from Peterson Road. Praying for whomever is injured. Not long ago, they put huge rocks in the ditch on the east side of E.1130 road which I assume was to keep the road from eroding further. Wondering if that area was where the accident occurred.

The car was westbound on Peterson when it veered off the road. The car ended up in a group of of trees, in my front yard, and the impact stopped the car. The driver easy taken out on life watch about 20 minutes ago.

Isn't this the same curve where some kid totaled his mom's brand new sports car in the middle of the night a few months ago? Hope this kid winds up being okay.

We drive through there all the time, and people drive way too fast for that curve. The road isn't in the greatest condition either.

Parrothead, it was further east than where Peterson bends into folks. It was just past the turnoff for Martin Park.

A parents worst nightmare, my son told me about the accident this evening. Says the boy is a nice kid and a good student and athlete. Hoping he makes it through this okay.
