LHS senior awarded sponsored National Merit Scholarship

A Lawrence High School senior is one of 1,000 high school students from across the country to receive a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship.

Leah Anne Towle was awarded a National Merit Macy’s Inc. Scholarship.

Corporate-sponsored scholarships are given to students whose parents are employees of the company, are residents of the communities they serve or plan to pursue a college degree or career in a field the sponsor wishes to encourage. About 200 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations sponsor National Merit Scholarships.

Scholars are selected from students who advance to the finalist level of the National Merit Scholarship competition and meet the criteria of a corporate sponsor. Macy’s gives scholarship awards to the children of Macy’s and Bloomingdale employees or to qualified employees themselves.

Awards are renewable for up to four years of college and annual stipends range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some scholarships provide a single payment of between $2,500 and $5,000.
