A Lawrence police officer on Tuesday morning in Shawnee County helped recover a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro that was reported stolen Jan. 5 from the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road. Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman, said that the suspect was interviewed by a Shawnee County Sheriff’s deputy regarding the car and that the suspect in possession of the car claimed he had purchased it from a Lawrence resident. The Camaro, valued at $12,000 in the police report, was orange and black, but it had been painted all black when it was recovered, McKinley said.

Authorities are still deciding whether the man who was found in possession of the car Tuesday would face charges in Shawnee County or Douglas County, McKinley said.
