Police identify shooting victim as 22-year-old Lawrence man

Lawrence police Monday said a 22-year-old Lawrence man was the victim of a shooting early Sunday in northern Lawrence.

The man was found injured about 3:30 a.m. outside apartments in the 1300 block of Michigan Way, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman. The apartments are just north of the intersection of Second and Michigan streets. Officers at the scene initially reported the man was shot in the leg, according to according to Operation 100’s Mike Frizzell, the Journal-World’s reporting partner.

The victim, whose home address is not in the apartment complex, was initially taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries that police said were not believed to be life-threatening. He later was transferred to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., where no information was available on his condition.

Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokeswoman, said Monday the shooting remained under investigation.
