Bald Eagle Rendezvous returns

If you want to talk with a mountain man, or see how old-time traders survived in pre-Civil War Kansas, heading to Lecompton is the way to go. The eight annual Bald Eagle Rendezvous is happening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Bald Eagle River View Park, East Second Street in Lecompton. There will be period re-enactors, portraying the fur trappers and traders who eked out a living when Lecompton was on the frontier.

They will show off skills from the old days, such as how to tan a hide, start a fire with flint and steel, and throw a tomahawk. They will also give tours of recreated dwellings. Admission is free.
