A 28-year-old Shawnee woman was injured in a four-vehicle accident Friday morning on U.S. Highway 24-40 near Basehor.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at 7:45 a.m. the four vehicles braked after an unknown vehicle merged into the right lane in a construction zone.
Kenneth Lee Cole, 25, of Topeka, was driving a 2007 Freightliner semitrailer, failed to brake in time and struck a 2006 Mitsubishi car driven by Amanda C. Rinne, of Shawnee. Rinne was injured and taken to Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
The crash also caused Rinne’s car to strike the car in front of it, and a fourth car behind the semitrailer also struck it. But no one else was injured other than Rinne. All four drivers wore their seat belts.
