Leavenworth man, 36, receives minor injuries in one-car accident north of Lawrence
A 36-year-old Leavenworth man was taken to the hospital early Thursday morning after a one-vehicle accident just north of Lawrence.
Sgt. Steve Lewis, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman, said Edward Kennington lost control of a 1998 Mazda 626 he was driving about 3:30 a.m. The car struck a curb and came to rest in the grass median near Teepee Junction, which is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-40 and U.S. Highway 24-59.
Medics took Kennington to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after he bumped his head, Lewis said. He was treated and released. Sheriff’s deputies listed driving too fast for conditions and overcorrected steering as contributing factors, but alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Lewis said. Kennington also was cited for having no proof of insurance and having no current vehicle registration.
