Kan. bank sues Virginia credit union over name

? A Wichita bank with 45 branches in Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas is suing a small Virginia credit union that primarily serves local churches and Christian-based groups.

Intrust Bank has filed a federal trademark infringement suit against Entrust Financial Credit Union, based in Richmond, Va.

The Wichita Eagle reports Intrust claims the credit union markets itself as a nationwide financial institution and is a competitor. It’s asking the court to cancel Entrust’s trademark, block the name from being used in advertising, and hand over all printed marketing materials for destruction.

Entrust’s CEO says the Kansas bank is confused. Susan Adams says Entrust has a single location whose members must be employees or family members of employees of churches and Christian organizations based in Richmond.

Intrust has four Lawrence locations.
