Douglas County prosecutors Wednesday charged a 24-year-old Lawrence man with aggravated battery for injuring another man early Wednesday during an altercation downtown.
James George, Douglas County’s pro-tem judge, set bond at $15,000 for Anthony M. Bassett, who was accused of punching another 24-year-old Lawrence man in the face.
Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said the victim and another man alleged the altercation occurred about 1:30 a.m. as Bassett and another man were walking by them in the 900 block of Massachusetts Street.
The victim said he was punched and suffered a possible broken nose. Police later arrested Bassett inside Jazzhaus, 926 1/2 Mass., and officers were not able to find the other suspect.
A Lawrence Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said the victim had been treated and released from the emergency room.
Jessica Dotter, a legal intern in the district attorney’s office, said in court Wednesday that Bassett had a 2008 conviction in Douglas County for misdemeanor battery on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor battery. Bassett’s next hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday.

"Man charged with battery for downtown altercation"
If they had charged him with AC he might have killed the guy.

get over yourself theres always a fight downtown.... HELLO after the bars.... means drunks and drunks means emotions... get over yourselves on here!!! There's two sides to every story!!! Free Bassett!!

The two kids, one being Bassett, who started the fight were pushing around a homeless guy. The other two, including the one that got assaulted, told them to stop pushing him around. So YES Bassett, and whomever that other kid is definitely, deserve to be in jail.

well again two sides to the story!!! stop being noisey!!! Cause what you see and isnt what you know!!! Judging is not what makes peace nor does accusing. Maybe the smartest idea is to get the homeless into a home and job.. and the angry people some help!!! Soo quit the judging and make some sense cause im pretty sure your not innocent either!
