Four Lawrence high school students win National Merit scholarships

Four soon-to-be graduates of high schools in Lawrence are winners of college-sponsored scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

Winners in the competition receive anywhere from $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the sponsoring institutions.

The Lawrence winners, their high schools and scholarships won:

• Orion Dollar, Lawrence High School, National Merit W. Harold Otto Scholarship at Kansas University.

• Victoria Gilman, Free State High School, National Merit Arizona State University Scholarship.

• Daniel Knight, Lawrence High School, National Merit W. Harold Otto Scholarship at KU.

• Joseph Matthews, Lawrence High School, National Merit Herbert A. Templeton Scholarship at Lewis & Clark, an independent liberal arts college in Portland, Ore.
