Haven In more than two hours of emotional testimony, 35 people asked the Haven school board not to close one of the district's elementary schools.
But board members said they need to cut the district's budget by at least $370,832, and no option will be without controversy.
The board is considering whether to close a school in Haven, Mount Hope, Partridge, Yoder or Pleasantview Academy.
Board President Mike Bergmeier says board members would have a special meeting Wednesday to discuss the options.
Supporters argued for each of their schools to stay open. The Hutchinson News reports that many parents said if their elementary school is closed, they will not send their children to another school in the Haven school district. A loss of students would cost the district even more money.
