Hutchinson receives $1.3 million federal grant for business park

? The city of Hutchinson has received a $1.3 million federal grant to expand a business park that’s home to a large manufacturing plant.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced the Economic Development Administration grant on Monday.

The funds will go toward construction of the third phase of Hutchinson’s Salt City Business Park, where a Siemens Energy plant makes a wind turbine component that houses the gearbox, drive train and electronic controls.

Two years ago, Hutchinson received $1.7 million in federal stimulus funds for the initial phases of the park. The Commerce Department says the completed project is expected to generate 260 new jobs and at least $140 million in private investment.
