Mother pleads innocent after baby dies from heat of hairdryer

? A Hutchinson woman pleaded innocent to second-degree murder in the death of her 3-month-old baby, who died from the heat of a hairdryer.

Prosecutors say 19-year-old Brigit Hippen’s daughter died of hyperthermia in February 2010 after Hippen left her in a bassinet near a hairdryer and then fell asleep. They say that the death was an accident, but that Hippen acted with extreme indifference to her child.

The Hutchinson News reports that Hippen entered her innocent plea on Monday.

She is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing April 1.
