Most phone calls to the Journal-World photography department deal with questions regarding reprints of published images. Yes, they are available. Any photograph credited to Journal-World staff can be ordered as a reprint, whether printed in the newspaper or displayed online. And if you aren’t already aware, many more photographs are posted online than in print. Costs vary depending on the image reprint size, print finish and whether you choose to have it framed. For example, an 8-by-10-inch print with a matte finish would cost $15.95. The same size print, matted and framed in an 8-by-10-inch frame, would cost an additional $10. The smallest size offered is wallet-sized, and the largest is 20-by-30-inches. All prices include shipping.

To order a reprint you first locate the photograph online at the Lawrence Journal-World. There are several ways to navigate to a photograph. One is to go straight to the web address http://www2.ljworld.com/photos, or instead, go to the main page at LJWorld.com and scroll to the bottom. In the gray area, to the right of the heading Also online, select the first category Photos. This is the same page as the web address above. From this page you can now search photographs by year, month and day for date of publication. Here’s a tip. For images taken prior to 2010, you should start your search using the date of its print publication. After 2010 you can search the date an event occurred or the photo was taken. Because the Journal-World posts many stories and photos online on the day of origin, the print publication date may be different. I recommend that if you can’t find an image using its print publication date, try searching previous days’ photo archives.

Once you’ve located a photograph you wish to order, click on the image to make the image and any accompanying story the main page. Beneath the photograph at the far right, and next to the photographer’s name, you will see a blue Enlarge photo link. Click on that link, and the full, uncropped photograph will display. Again, go to the bottom right-hand corner and click on the blue Buy a print of this photo link. You will now be at the MyCapture Company order page, where you can select your reprint size and number of copies desired. Follow the directions to the next page where you can choose an appropriate cropping of the photograph based on the reprint size. After passing the My Cart page, displaying your order, you arrive at the secure checkout page where you can pay for your purchase using a credit card.
