Lecompton one city council candidate short of a full ballot

The Lecompton city clerk is hoping for some write-in votes to fill all the positions open on the city council.

Three seats are open in the April 5 election — two city council positions and the mayor seat. Only two people have filed for those posts, and city clerk Sandy Nichols hopes to fill the third with a write-in candidate.

Mark Tunstall, current city council member, has filed for the mayor’s seat. Tim McNish, also a current city council member, has refiled for city council. No one filed for the second council seat.

Nichols said if the seat wasn’t filled with a write-in candidate, the mayor would appoint someone to the council.

Roy Paslay, longtime mayor, decided not to seek re-election.

The filing deadline was noon Tuesday.
