Lawrence man pleads guilty in November covenience store robberies

A 29-year-old Lawrence man pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon to two counts of aggravated robbery in connection with two November convenience store robberies.

Cetewayo Ragins entered the pleas Tuesday after he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Douglas County District Judge Sally Pokorny told Ragins he faced anywhere from four years and six months to 20 years in prison on one count and a maximum five years in prison on the second count.

Ragins was accused of using a gun to take cash from a clerk Nov. 25 at the Presto convenience store, 602 W. Ninth St., and Nov. 28 from the Zarco 66 station, 1415 W. Sixth St.

James McCabria, an assistant district attorney, said a Lawrence police officer recognized Ragins from Zarco store surveillance footage and that Ragins confessed to using a black BB gun to commit the two robberies to get money for drugs.

Pokorny is scheduled to sentence Ragins on March 4. Defense attorney Jason Billam said he expected to file a motion for a lesser sentence.
