New bleachers are on order for baseball and soccer fields at Free State and Lawrence high schools, and the softball field at Free State.

Monday night, the Lawrence school board agreed to have new bleachers installed at the fields, accepting B.A. Green Construction’s offer to do the work for $486,100. Installation is scheduled to begin once spring sports are complete, and before fall sports begin.

The soccer fields will get aluminum bleachers surrounded by blocks. Baseball and softball fields will get “Versa-Loc” bleachers — following the style and materials in place for seating at both schools’ football stadiums — because bids came in lower than for aluminum-surrounded-by-blocks seating.

Sure buy bleachers, then cut teachers and close schools. No wonder why parents home school!

Will the bleachers be mink lined? I don't want my tushy to be abused while I watch demonstrations of athletic skills.

I believe that the schools should do away with the bleachers and focus more on the education at hand or have a private donation come?

BOE members.....WHY are you spending this much money on bleachers when so very little has been spent on BASIC MAINTENANCE of school buildings??? This is absolutely irresponsible!

Perhaps they could place any leftover sections on each side of the ramp from the portables so parents can line the path and cheer their children's scholarly achievements on the way to overused gym/lunch room.

Sports help develop people ready to accept anything as facts and proud team players who will slaughter anyone they are told to slaughter because they threaten our existence. The school board is right on board, heck they even create a lot of the fear of dangers by prison camp environment at many of the schools, shoot look at Broken Arrow wit the cameras, cold blank walls, the school made to service vehicles instead of educating kids.

You see how stupid these people are that are in charge of this outfit? Let the idiots that want to go see these games sit on the ground or bring their own chairs.

What I find hard to understand after sitting in on both meetings is money is scarce yet USD 497 approved nearly $500,000 for new bleachers? Is there an end in sight on the sports project spending ? Where does this money come from? $500,000 would keep Wakrusa open?
