Kansas House moves closer to vote on Kobach election fraud bill

? A Kansas House committee is moving closer to a vote on a bill requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls.

The Elections Committee wrapped up testimony Friday from supporters of the measure proposed by GOP Secretary of State Kris Kobach by having Kobach answer questions from the committee.

The measure also would require people who register to vote for the first time in Kansas to provide proof that they’re citizens.

Many questions for Kobach came from Topeka Democrat Ann Mah, who argues that the bill would suppress voter turnout. Kobach says such criticism is unfounded.

Opponents of the bill are scheduled to testify Wednesday. Committee Chairman and Olathe Republican Scott Schwab said the committee should vote on the measure by the end of next week.
