Prosecutors filed charges against man accused of firing weapon outside Lawrence bar

Douglas County prosecutors Monday charged a 28-year-old Lawrence man with aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm after he was accused of firing shots at a bar early Friday morning.

A judge on Saturday had set bond at $100,000 for Eric A. Reed Jr. after he was arrested Friday near Bob Billings Parkway and Iowa Street. Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said officers were called at 2:35 a.m. Friday to Taste Lounge, Bar and Grill, 804 W. 24th St., after a report of multiple shots being fired from a vehicle in the parking lot.

Two men were believed to be inside the vehicle, but only Reed was found and arrested Friday morning. Prosecutors filed the two charges against him Monday. According to Kansas Department of Corrections records, Reed is on parole for a 2007 Douglas County drug possession case.

A judge scheduled Reed’s next hearing for 2 p.m. Thursday in front of District Judge Paula Martin.
