A 32-year-old Topeka man accused in a Douglas County sex crime case agreed to be taken into custody Thursday as prosecutors were trying to revoke his bond. Prosecutors Wednesday presented evidence suggesting the man had violated conditions of his $75,000 bond by being around the victim’s family both in Lawrence and Florida after he was charged with aggravated criminal sodomy and accused of molesting a 5-year-old boy in April. The suspect was the boyfriend of the boy’s mother, who reported the alleged event. The Journal-World generally does not identify sex crime suspects unless they are convicted. Defense attorney Sarah Swain disputed the suspect was with the family in Lawrence but said her client would go into custody while she investigates allegations about Florida. A trial is scheduled for April.
