Police arrest Lawrence man, 25, for allegedly inhaling toxic fumes from a can
Lawrence police on Monday arrested a 25-year-old Lawrence man, accusing him of inhaling toxic fumes out of a can in a vehicle.
Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said officers were called around 4:45 p.m. about a driver who was driving recklessly in the area of the 2400 block of West 25th Street, just west of 25th and Iowa streets.
Sarna said an officer found the vehicle in a parking lot and discovered the 25-year-old man inside with cans of toxic chemicals. He was arrested on one count of abusing toxic vapors, according to Douglas County Jail records.
The man posted $500 bond Monday evening and was given a summons to appear in Douglas County District Court on Sept. 6, meaning Douglas County prosecutors can wait until later to make a decision about filing formal charges. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
