Air conditioning problems reported at Broken Arrow, New York, South Middle schools

Power flashes and other power disruption have led to problems in with the air conditioners at three schools in Lawrence, the Lawrence school district announced Friday.

At New York School, there is a partial air conditioning outage and a total phone service outage. Broken Arrow and South Middle schools both have partial air conditioning. Students have been moved to the cooler parts of the building and classes will go on as scheduled, but parents have been notified they may pick up their students early, if they choose.

The Lawrence school district used its automated phone system to call parents of students at all three schools.

Supt. Rick Doll said he expected repairs to be completed to the buildings before classes resume on Monday.

As of 12:30 p.m., nearly 1,300 Westar Energy customers in Douglas County were without power.
