Four injured in two-vehicle auto accident on U.S. Highway 59
Four people were injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 59 near the intersection of North 650 Road, south of Lawrence.
According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just before 5 p.m.
A pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Eudora resident Chad Peterson was traveling southbound on U.S. 59. The vehicle left the roadway, came back onto the road and struck another vehicle head-on.
Three of the four passengers in the second vehicle, also a truck, were injured. Those injured included Andrew Cook, 31, Paola; Michael Gorman, 48, Osawatomie; and Kevin Cook, 29, Paola. They were all transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The fourth passenger was not injured.
A nursing supervisor at LMH Saturday said Andrew Cook and Gorman had both been treated and were being released. Kevin Cook’s status was still being evaluated.
A Life Star helicopter was dispatched to the scene and reportedly transported Peterson to a Kansas City-area hospital with serious injuries. No further information regarding Peterson’s status was available as of Sunday morning.
