— Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and his wife, Mary, are inviting young children and their families to take part in the annual Easter egg hunt in Topeka.

The hunt takes place April 16 on the grounds of Cedar Crest, the governor's official residence in northwest Topeka. Brownback's office says a free shuttle service from the Security Benefits Group parking lot on 6th Street will begin running at 9 a.m.

The hunt is open to children 1 through 9, who will be divided into age groups. There will also be music, cartoon characters and prize giveaways.

In case of rain, all of the candy will be distributed to Topeka area charities.

Who is paying for this? Are my Muslim and Immigrant friends welcome?

They're welcome to hunt for Easter eggs, though most of the eggs have been pre-distributed to the children of campaign donors. Also Kobach will be there to examine all the children's birth certificates.

I am surprised he would still allow the use of eggs. Each baby chicken is precious and starts at the laying of the egg.

Can't think of a bigger treat than to attend a holiday party hosted by Governor Brownback (of course Christian--on the state's dime)---the perfect guy to corrupt little kids-- just like he's doing for Kansas.

He just announced (wichita eagle) an invitation only pheasant hunt. The jobs associated with this must be gun bearers.

Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first Full Moon which occurs after the Spring Equinox. The date depends upon a Solar event, The Equinox, and a Lunar event, the Full Moon. Sounds kind of Pagan . Easter gets it's name from the Pagan Goddess, Eostre, who was honored by Northern Europeans during the Spring Equinox. (Modern Pagans celebrate the Sabbat of Ostara during the Equinox).

The rabbit/bunny/White Rabbit is one of the animal guises used by the Goddess Astarte. As a White Rabbit, Astarte was said to visit the homes of her followers. If they had been true to their beliefs, she would leave baskets of colored eggs on their doorsteps.

The Egg is a Pagan symbol of fertility and new life. The coloring of eggs was a pre-Christian tradition through-out Europe. Newly hatched chicks are another symbol of Spring-time new life.

It's an Easter egg hunt for kids. Geez, lighten up.

Do the kids have to bring their own easter eggs? Sam could use them for an "omelet" fundraiser for all his corporate buddies. Seems more like the way he likes to do things. Steal from the poor and give it to the rich.

OMG.

Our Governor is going to use our tax dollars to feed aborted fetuses to young children.

This thread may have already set the record for immature, juvenile, sophomoric, snide comments.

I personally like Sam Brownback.

I just don't know if I can trust him.

Let's just say he is on probation.

And remember they will be using silencers so those pheasant won't even know they are being shot. Hope noone is out walking in the wild (looking for a place to live now that they will get a tax break) because they won't even know someone is hunting birds nearby. If a gun goes off in the woods, but noone can hear it, was there any sound?
