Baldwin City man pleads not guilty to hit-and-run charges

A 48-year-old Baldwin City man charged with driving a pickup truck into a group of cyclists and injuring one of them in July pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the charges he faces.

During a brief court appearance, Scott. A. Young’s attorney, Rick Frydman, entered the pleas, and Judge Pro Tem James George set his next hearing for Oct. 6.

Young is accused of driving his truck into the lead cyclist of a group of riders in the 1000 section of East 1400 Road. Prosecutors have said there was an apparent altercation between the riders and the pickup truck’s driver before the lead cyclist was thrown from his bike.

Sheriff’s officers arrested Young in late August, and he posted $10,000 bond.

Douglas County prosecutors have charged Young with aggravated battery, criminal damage and reckless driving.
