Douglas County prosecutors have charged a 23-year-old Lawrence man with committing lewd fondling or touching against a 7-year-old child earlier this month.

Lawrence police on Friday afternoon arrested the suspect in connection with an incident that occurred in north-central Lawrence. The child reported the incident to a parent, who notified police.

Prosecutors Monday filed official charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and violation of a protective order.

A judge Tuesday set the suspect’s bond at $100,000. According to the charges, the suspect could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted. The Journal-World generally does not name suspects of sex crimes unless they are convicted.
