Enrollment open for youth acting groups

Enrollment in Lawrence Community Theatre’s Youth Companies has begun.

The Junior Company will present “Madeline,” based on the Ludwig Bemelman books. The Advanced Company will perform “Actor’s Workshop,” wherein a team of actors get trapped in a television and keep getting moved from channel to channel in a quest to finally get home. Children in first through sixth grades may participate in the Junior Company. Sixth- through 12th-graders may register for the Advanced Company.

Each company consists of an eight-week workshop, wherein the students meet once per week, are cast in the show according to their abilities, and then spend time preparing the show and developing their acting and public-speaking skills. Each workshop culminates with a public performance.

The Advanced Company meets from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Tuesdays starting Sept. 14. Juniors meet from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Thursdays starting Sept. 16. No experience is necessary for either company.

Enrollment fees are $105 and include instruction and materials. Generous scholarship assistance is available. Call the theatre box office at 785-THE-SHOW between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to enroll.
