Michael Scott has not yet left “The Office” building
How do you write the star off a sitcom? Before “The Office” (8 p.m., NBC) even entered its sixth season, Steve Carell, who plays the painfully delusional boss, Michael Scott, made it clear that this would be his final year.
So look forward to Michael making plenty of self-destructive personal moves and career-threatening choices. Why should anything change?
In tonight’s episode, Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”) guest stars as a very handsome rival salesman who specializes in stealing Dunder Mifflin clients.
While the rest of the staff see him as a threat, Michael is convinced that he’s a chip off the old block.
In an amusing subplot, Andy (Ed Helms) forms a band with Darryl (Craig Robinson) and Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) with decidedly mixed results.
• “Office” star Rainn Wilson is among the legion of comics to appear on “Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education” (8 p.m., Comedy Central). Jon Stewart hosts this fundraiser for autism charities.
Look for Rob Corddry, Bryan Cranston, Larry David, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Jimmy Kimmel, Jim Parsons, Sofia Vergara and others to appear and man the phones.
But if you call, don’t expect a celebrity to answer. This was taped Oct. 2, a fact that might explain the topicality of Stewart’s remarks about fired CNN anchor Rick Sanchez. Part of the risk of doing political humor in a 24-hour news cycle is that the news and the jokes get stale quickly.
• Soledad O’Brien hosts “Almighty Debt” (8 p.m., CNN), a look at how one church is helping its members avoid a life consumed by delinquency, foreclosure and debt.
She visits with pastor DeForest Soaries of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, N.J., who tells her that money troubles are overwhelming his congregation.
“Debt is a bigger problem than racism,” observes Soaries, a veteran of the civil rights movement and Jesse Jackson’s organization Operation PUSH.

Cult choice
An internment camp for insect-like aliens becomes the setting for the 2009 shocker “District 9” (7:05 p.m., Starz), a smart film and a surprise summer hit despite its lack of bankable stars.
