Paint job on tower will force Kansas Public Radio off the air Tuesday

Kansas Public Radio will be off the air briefly as painting crews work on top of the station’s transmitter tower.

The radio station, broadcasting on 91.5 FM in Lawrence, is expected to go off the air beginning Tuesday afternoon. The service interruption could continue on Wednesday morning.

Transmitters in Emporia, Junction City, Manhattan and Atchison also will be off the air during that time, because those transmitters repeat the Lawrence signal to their local area.

The station will continue to broadcast online during the outage at http://kpr.ku.edu. Though crews will be working on the 700-foot tower for several days, the service interruption will only last during the period when the top of the tower is being painted.
