High speed car chase from Kansas City, Mo., ends on Kansas Turnpike, east of Lawrence
A high-speed car chase that started in Kansas City, Mo., ended about 10:30 Tuesday night in Douglas County, about three miles east of Lawrence.
According to the Kansas City, Mo., police department, officers tried to pull over a car near Gardner Avenue and Chouteau Trafficway in Kansas City. The driver would not stop, and officers witnessed occupants throwing drugs out the window.
The car slowed enough so two passengers could exit the vehicle, and officers arrested them.
The car, a black Kia, then drove westbound on I-70. Kansas City, Mo., police stopped chasing the car after it entered Kansas. The car struck a Kansas Turnpike Booth, and Kansas officers started pursuing it.
According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority, the car was eventually stopped near mile marker 207 on the turnpike.
