November 15, 2010

Kansas coach Bill Self officially announced the signing of 6-foot guard Naadir Tharpe to a national letter of intent on Monday.

Tharp, a point guard from Worcester, Mass., averaged 13 points and six assists last season for Brewster Academy, located in Wolfeboro, N.H. Last season, Brewster went 35-5 and won the prep national championship.

“We are all very excited about Naadir,” Self said in a release. “We feel so fortunate that we were able to sign him. Even though we got involved recruiting him late, we saw him play a ton over the last couple of summers.

"He reminds me so much of (former KU guard) Aaron Miles. He’s a good solid point guard, quick, athletic and has become a very good shooter. I really believe he will be a great addition to our program.”

Tharpe was ranked the 91st-best player by During his sophomore season, he was teammates at Brewster with current KU forward Thomas Robinson.

Just out of curiosity, who else was he being recruited by? His stats don't seem too impressive, but nonetheless, welcome to the KU family! If you're comparable to Aaron Miles.. that's good enough for me!

And for the record I really wish we could sign a Moo-sounding player again...

It's a sad day when the most a big university has going for it is its basketball program.
