Census counters to begin home visits

Lawrence and Douglas County residents are doing a bit better than the national average of responding to the U.S. Census.

As of Friday, 75 percent of Lawrence residents and 76 percent of Douglas County residents had mailed in their Census forms. The statewide average is 75 percent and the national average is 72 percent.

The Census Bureau next week is expected to begin sending workers to canvass neighborhoods to find people who did not send in their Census forms.

In Lawrence, the efforts are expected to begin in areas with large university student populations.
