The seismograph at the university registered at earthquake, though not here, at 11:45 this morning. It lasted about 35 minutes and registered a north and south movement. Then there was a three-minute pause and more movement. It is not clear, but it is believed the quake is far from here. Instruments in St. Louis also registered a quake.

The Journal-World began a nine-article series on pollution in the area. One of the focal points was the nitrogen oxide gases sent into the atmosphere by the Cooperative Farm Chemicals Assn. plant east of the city. Plant officials contended that most of the emissions were only harmless steam.

At 7 p.m. on March 26, I drove by a Lawrence police officer hiding behind a tree on the 1900 block of Massachusetts. He had a radar gun pointed at traffic. He was standing in the modified universal shooting position (classic FBI stance). I could not tell he was a police officer and thought I was having a gun aimed at me.
