‘Shutter Island’ stays at top with $22.2M
Los Angeles ? Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese continue to lure movie-goers to “Shutter Island,” while James Cameron’s “Avatar” has surpassed $700 million domestically.
The Paramount Pictures thriller remained the No. 1 film for a second-straight weekend with $22.2 million, raising its 10-day total to $75.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
James Cameron’s science-fiction blockbuster “Avatar” became the first movie ever to top the $700 million mark domestically. With a $14 million weekend, the 20th Century Fox release now is at $706.9 million domestically and $2.5 billion worldwide.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood .com.
