Melissa Etheridge joins ‘Million Dollar Quartet’

New York — Melissa Etheridge joins the cast of the hit Broadway musical “Million Dollar Quartet” for a one-time jam session.

The Oscar and Grammy-winning artist will perform an undisclosed song on June 23 during the show’s finale. It will be pulled from the catalog of one the four artists represented the show.

“Million Dollar Quartet” tells the story of an actual event in 1956 when Sun Recording artists Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley played together in an impromptu jam session. The Memphis studio was owned by the legendary Sam Phillips, who discovered them all.

Sting questions wisdom of oil drilling

Denver — British rock star Sting said that like everyone, he’s paying attention to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and wonders why such a deep well was approved from the start.

Sting was preparing Thursday for a second night at Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre as part of his tour with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. He stopped by the Denver Art Museum to look at a painting of southern Colorado’s Mount Blanca by his friend Stephen Hannock, whose work he collects.

“What were they doing drilling that deep without any safeguards? Who allowed that to happen?,” he said.

Conan O’Brien plays rock star at Bonnaroo

Manchester, Tenn. — Conan O’Brien, often trading a microphone for a guitar, got to play rock star at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

The former “Tonight Show” host brought his “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television” tour to the Tennessee music festival on Friday. He played to a packed comedy tent that, before he hit the stage, chanted “CoCo” — the nickname that he earned during his “Tonight Show” run and became the rallying cry for his fans when NBC ousted him.

As O’Brien has done throughout his cross-country tour, he frequently rocked out, performing songs by Elvis, the Band, the White Stripes, Willie Nelson and others.

Man found guilty of stalking gymnast

Los Angeles — A judge found a Florida man guilty of stalking Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson on Friday and later determined he was legally insane at the time of the crime.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor found Robert O’Ryan guilty of felony stalking and burglary charges and two misdemeanor concealed weapons violations. The verdict came after four days of testimony and evidence.

Pastor, considering the evaluations of two psychiatrists, ruled that O’Ryan was legally insane at the time of his arrest last March. He likely will serve his sentence in a state mental hospital after a court-ordered evaluation.
