This year raising money for Kansas Audio-Reader Network can be as easy as swinging a golf club. For the first time the program will be initiating a golf tournament fundraiser. Donations will provide reading and information services to the blind and print-disabled in Kansas and western Missouri.

The fundraiser is in addition to the yearly “For Your Ears Only” event that sells music and audio equipment, which raised about $17,000 last year.

“We’re hoping to not only raise money but spread awareness as well,” said Feloniz Lovato-Winston, development assistant. “It would be great to reach out to some people who haven’t heard about the program.”

She said Audio-Reader officials don’t know exactly how many listeners they have, but 6,000-plus radios have been distributed, and a number of listeners use other services, such as the telephone reader and website.

The golf tournament will be from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 28 at Alvamar Country Club. More information is at reader.ku.edu.
