Performance rises to elite level

Megan Elder

Megan Elder, a freshman member of the Highland Community College women’s track team, earned the team’s first national medal of the meet at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held May 20-22 in Hutchinson. She qualified in both the heptathlon and the pole vault for the championships.

Elder finished in eighth place on day one. On day two, she set new personal bests in the javelin and 800-meter run and finished the two-day event in 12th place. She also pole vaulted to a school record of 11′ 4.” This gave HCC its first national medal of the meet, with a sixth-place finish.

As a team, the Scotties finished in the top 20, placing 19th in the championships. Elder is the daughter of Sharon Elder of Perry.
