Craig Robinson hosts ‘Last Comic Standing’

Craig Robinson (“The Office,” “Hot Tub Time Machine”) takes over as host of “Last Comic Standing” (7 p.m., NBC) now entering its seventh season. He kicks off the show at a keyboard, warbling a funny, throwaway theme song. After that, the showcase is dominated by the three judges, Greg Giraldo, Natasha Leggero and Andy Kindler. In this audition round, the comedy is spotty at best. Leggero accurately notes, “There are diamonds in the rough here. But there’s a lot of rough.”

• Now the hardest-working man in show business, Craig Robinson will also host the 2010 Hip Hop Honors (8 p.m., VH1).

• The new animated sitcom “Neighbors From Hell” (9 p.m., TBS) also sports a funny, clever theme song.

The story is both simple and outrageous. A petty bureaucrat in hell, Balthazar Hellman (Will Sasso) is busted for watching TV shows. In Hell, TV is used only as an instrument of torture, not entertainment.

But the Big Chief wants to use Balthazar’s pop knowledge for a bigger purpose. He and his family are sent back to earth to stop an oil company from creating a super drill that can bore down into the center of the earth, the very location of hell.

This reassignment allows the Hellmans to become the kooky family on the block, much like “The Munsters,” “The Addams Family” and the other macabre fish-out-of-water TV families. Balthazar plays Gomez Addams to his fetching demon wife Tina (Molly Shannon). And there’s even a wacky Grandpa. And with all of the powers of darkness at his disposal, Balthazar really just wants to fit in.
