Two arrested in copper theft

Tonganoxie police arrested a 32-year-old Lakeland, Minn., man and a 22-year-old Henderson, Nev., woman Tuesday morning on several charges in connection with theft of copper wiring from a park.

Police received a report Friday about copper wiring being taken from underground lines at the park. The theft left all lights at the park’s soccer field, as well as some lights on a walking trail, inoperable, Tonganoxie police Lt. Billy Adcox said.

The man was booked into Leavenworth County Jail on charges of felony theft, possession of stolen property, criminal damage to property, no driver’s license, obstruction of process and identification theft. Officials say the man initially gave them a bogus name. The woman was arrested on charges of theft, possession of stolen property and criminal damage to property.
