Two Ottawa men charged in fatal stabbing

Franklin County prosecutors Friday charged two Ottawa men with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing Wednesday night outside an Ottawa residence.

A judge set bond at $1 million for John David Balbirnie, 44, and Brandon Lee Ellsmore, 23, who were arrested Thursday in connection with the death of 24-year-old Paul Duane Nicholson of Ottawa.

Nicholson, who was stabbed to death, was found by officers in the 200 block of South Locust Street in Ottawa. He had collapsed in a neighbor’s yard at 9 p.m. Wednesday while going for help, according to police.

Officers questioned several witnesses before they arrested Balbirnie and Ellsmore.

Lt. Adam Weingartner, of the Ottawa Police Department, said no other information about the case was available Friday afternoon.
