Shawnee woman in serious condition after Friday accident

A Shawnee woman was in serious condition Monday afternoon at an area hospital following a Friday accident in southern Leavenworth County.

Serena R. Teopaco, 37, Shawnee, was taken by air ambulance to Kansas University Hospital after the accident, which occurred about 6:50 p.m. Friday at Leavenworth County Road 1 and Kansas Highway 32.

Teopaco was driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata east on K-32 when her vehicle collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. The blazer, driven by Amy D. Lewis, 29, Lawrence, was traveling south on County Road 1 when it ran a stop sign and struck Teopaco’s vehicle, according to Leavenworth County Sheriff’s office reports.

Lewis was taken by her husband to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, reports said, and alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor to the wreck.
