A 36-year-old Lawrence man was arrested early Sunday after leading authorities on a chase through east Lawrence and into rural Douglas County in a stolen car.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Matt Sarna, the pursuit began at 12:06 a.m. when police attempted to stop a black Ford Mustang at the intersection of 19th and Barker streets in east Lawrence. The driver headed north to the intersection of 15th and Barker streets, where he turned east and drove more than fives miles east into rural Douglas County before making a loop and heading south on East 1900 Road.

Lawrence Police and Douglas County Sheriff's Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1300 block of East 1900 Road with the assistance of spike strips. Officers found the man attempting to hide in a ditch, where they arrested him without further incident. Neither the suspect nor any officers were injured in the pursuit, which ended at about 12:30 a.m. Details on how fast the suspect was driving were not made available Sunday.

The man was arrested on charges of felony theft, felony attempt to flee or elude, reckless driving and driving while revoked.

The car thief was pretty lucky. My wife leaves work at midnight and drives west on 15th (no not from the outhouse). If this bozo in his mad dash of idiocy had been stealing and running on another night and caused my wife to wreck and injure herself, getting out of jail would be the last pleasant experience of his life.

Why was my post removed? Just because I posted the name of the suspect? You know, public information that should be published...

That happened to be my car, glad the guy was caught. It wasn't really as exciting as it looks from my perspective.

Liberty... I hope you're not serious. If your wife was merely injured by this nutball, she would then be spending the rest of the marriage alone, as you would be in prison for murder.
