I-35 reopened after fatality accident in Franklin County

19 vehicles involved in incident

Interstate 35 southbound was closed from mile marker 187 to 199 after a multiple-vehicle accident just after 7 a.m. in Franklin County Saturday morning.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, there was one fatality during the incident, though the name and victim information was not yet available. The accident occurred near mile marker 199, just south of Gardner about 7:24 a.m.

The accident involved 19 vehicles, six of which were semi-trucks. The highway patrol said the incident was actually one in a series of three or four accidents that occurred in a chain-reaction manner. About 30 total vehicles were involved.

As of 9:40 p.m. Saturday all previously-closed portions of Interstate 35 had been reopened.
