Trial begins for man accused of raping 11-year-old Lawrence girl

A jury trial began Monday in the case of a Lawrence man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl.

The victim said the 21-year-old man had sex with her Feb. 6 at her North Lawrence home. The defendant was baby sitting the girl and her siblings while her parents were out of town at a casino.

Lawrence police said the suspect admitted to touching the child inappropriately.

Douglas County prosecutors charged the man with one count of rape or aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

The Journal-World generally does not name suspects in sex crimes unless there is a conviction.
